We are who we are Nothing can Shake Us! #falcons

April 7, 2019

The Daystar Basketball Ladies Team (Falcons) we all felt devastated, and heartbroken after losing our game three to team gladiators in the semifinals of the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) league after having an unbeaten journey throughout league one and two we won straight 26 games, which is not an easy thing to do, especially having to play against different teams who have different strength twice.

The Falcons

Basketball is a game played by two opposing teams of five men or women each, usually on an indoor court. Points are scored by throwing the ball through an elevated horizontal metal hoop. Since that’s the definition it has nothing to do with performing miracle or magic to win; I totally don’t blame ourselves for loosing because at the end of the game one team has to lose and the other wins, just as we won 26 games, gladiators team won the three games, and we lost it.

Just as my coach Peter Otieno Said “We beat ourselves”  he simply put his words in a very easy way to summarize to the doubting world that, Our opponent were not any better than us for us to loose to them, but we only beat ourselves but underperforming in our last three games in the semi finals, with so many factors, if he is to mentions a few like players missing their layups all alone under the rim, shooting off points, and not boxing out our plus size opponent.  Because the same opponent we beat them in league one with a 12 point difference and league two with 5points difference.

The Falcons

As much as all of a sudden, the Daystar Ladies basketball team became the topic of the league since we started our unbeaten journey, social media is all over us counting all the points we missed and made, anticipating how our next game will be, and will proceed with this journey of winning or not. It amazes me how human beings could just change from one thing to another in a very short time, It was just the other day the season of 2013-2014 where the Daystar team was just an underdog team beaten by anyone and no one really cares, and 2014-2015 when we up our game  last year and played semifinals against Equity Bank and we were denied the chance to go to the Kenya  Premier League (KPL).

I conclude these by saying, there are so many factors that all our opponents don’t know about us:

  • We are a prayerful team, our institution teaches us enough of God’s love, to love your teammate just like you love yourself. We have unbreakable chemistry which no one can take it away from us, because Daystar basketball ladies and Gentlemen team is made up of ONLY the students because they believe in “nurturing talents” not gaining fame. Lastly, we all painfully accept and blame ourselves for the loss of this season as a team not a specific or individual player because we believe the 26 games we won was as a team not a player, and so is our 3 lost as a team.

This is not the end of Us; watch out where ever you’re meeting us, because behind us there’s  a strong God.

2 Peter 1-19
